It stopped working this morning, and when I go to my Control Panel and click on my mouse settings, a window pops up and says “Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver.” And it asks me if i want to uninstall the driver. I don’t want to click anything and risk messing up my computer. How do I fix this?
EDIT: Fixed it! Thank you so much for your help

Look at your taskbar and find synaptics pointing device. then right click it and select device properties. Then go to where it shows you both of your devices names. then click Reset Devices, and then press ok.
Hope it works.
It sounds like your touchpad is failing, or the driver is corrupt. If you can get a usb mouse to work with it, try uninstalling and reinstalling the touchpad in the device manager. The device manager is accessed by going to start/right click my computer/manage/device manager. Find the Synaptics driver, right click on it, then click “uninstall”. After doing that, click the “scan for hardware changes” button on the top of the device manager. This should cause the computer to re-discover the touchpad, if it is working, and reinstall the driver automatically. If this does not work, your touchpad/touchpad ribbon cable may need replacing. Good luck!
Try downloading the driver from here and reinstall it: http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers
