iOS 5: Wireless iPad Mirroring with AirPlay and Apple TV (First Look)

Another pretty cool new feature coming to the iPad and Apple TV is the ability to mirror the iPad with AirPlay. I did a demo of this before connected to an HDTV via HDMI, but now it looks like we’ll essentially do the same thing wireless with AirPlay on an Apple TV. Pretty cool stuff. The demo includes mirroring and playing Real Racing HD and X-Plane.

To be honnest i dont think Apple are intrested in the gaming aspect of it, more the real world capabilitys, such as Browsing, Meetings, Education and the like.. Gaming will come, but it wont be in there forfront, not until they release there console..!!

If any individual has an interest in getting an ipad 3 before it hits the shelves you’ll be able to apply to become a tester, I did that a couple of weeks ago and just received my shipment verification today! iPad3Tester.Co.Cc

@wwwinsanelygreatmac ..ok. say you ‘re mirroring with AirPlay and Apple TV on a full HD tv, and you’re viewing a 1920×1080 image you’ve stored in the ipad. what resolution will you get on the tv?

@MRvSCx Dude, Mike is showing what iOS 5 Beta has to offer. He is a Beta tester so that means that he gets the new stuff before it is released to make sure that it works for the general public. The stuff he is showing isn’t available to you yet. You won’t have the ability to use airplay until iOS is released and you download it on your iPad 2.

  • MRvSCx says:

My iPad 2 doesn’t have the option to AirPlay and mirroring will this change if I get the apple tv I have a 64gb wifi only please help me.

  • OhThereYouIs says:

Can you mirror with an iPhone or iPod Touch or just iPad?

  • airmanchairman says:

Cool! A lot of iOS 5 testers are reporting improvements in smoothness and stutter in the most recent Beta of IOS5 (beta 6).

Can you confirm this, and if so, post another video update that we can compare to this earlier one? X-Plane is my favourite video-intensive app and I’m eager to see it working on my HDTV via AirPlay in HDMI full-screen mode…

can it work with Ipad 1?

  • phweakwilled says:

Great demo. Just to explain to some peeps. This demo requires iPad2 and new generation AppleTV box connected via HDMI to TV. The iPad communicates with the AppleTV device over your home wifi network. I don’t know if this requires 802.11N speeds to work this well. Can anyone comment on whether mirroring works in mobile safari?

  • RMADominator says:

Does he have a lot of things in multiple tasking

Does AirPlay work with any tv?
