It’s Tuesday meaning it’s time for Tech Tuesdays. This week had plenty of news. So the Nexus One’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread update schedule just got a little bit more detailed. Google announced they would be putting Gingerbread on the phone in the coming weeks meaning pretty soon. Intel’s upcoming Sandy Bridge CPUs show up a bit ahead of their CES 2011 launch at an Asian store. Two Core i5 chips, and a Core i7 chip were leaked, all using the LGA1155 socket. Pingdom tested blogging platforms from October 15th to December 15th and found Blogger to have no down time while Tumblr had nearly 48 hours of downtime. WordPress, and Typepad were at 0.1, and 0.2 hours of downtime. While Posterous had 2.1 hours of downtime. Microsoft removed their Genuine Advantage piracy roadblock servers for Office. That means it’s now easier to pirate Microsoft Office. But that won’t be for long since Microsoft is working on an even better piracy roadblock to replace Genuine Advantage. And finally Google decided they will keep Google Voice calling through Gmail free through the whole year of 2011. That’s good news for all those Google Voice users. And that will probably make Voice look really good comparing it to Skype which charges for calls. Articles used: gtmurl.com Blog: zlstudios.net Twitter twitter.com
@MeestaBojangles Yeah, I guess that comes because we are really the minority in this area. As long as AMD and NVIDIA keep on making their high end graphics cards I’m fine. Since I’ve already been getting good graphics cards separate from the integrated stuff anyways. It would be nice though for Intel to maybe put a faster GPU in their high end Core i7 chips, since that would probably boost the performance at least a little with the high end cards.
Sandy Bridge looks disappointing for enthusiasts who already have high-end GPUs. I hope they pay us some attention and actually add to our performance to compensate all the overclocking they’re limiting on us. It really looks like they’re aiming for people with weak/no GPUs at all.
@mattd28 I can see Microsoft software being pirated like crazy right now. Microsoft better get the new stuff out soon or they’re going to lose a ton of money.
I agree about Microsoft Genuine Advantage, seems a strange way of doing it, as there is no protection left at the moment? hmmm
@fara0nchik Yeah I read a post on a few tech blogs about Skype’s downtime.
Skype downtime today 22.12.2010
Earlier today, we noticed that the number of people online on Skype was falling, which wasn’t typical or expected, so we began to investigate!!!
