The first style you learn is important. If you are looking for a school, Krav Maga, Muay Tai, SPM, and Wing Chun and styles like those are good first styles. Wait until you can defend yourself for styles like TaiJi, BuJutsu and Aikido. If you are athletic, Judo, Wushu or MMA is OK. Quality is more variable in a popular style like Karate, Shaolin or Taekwondo. Remember that famous teachers aren’t always the best.
