With your ‘hint’ it sounds like you believe that the earth is only around 6000 years old and was created by god. Have fun with that.
If you want my opinion here we go. After the early universe cooled enough for matter to form, slight differences in density began to coalesce into galaxies over millions of years. Billions of years after that the first stars came into being and ran through their life cycles. Our solar system formed from the remnants of a supernova and other uncollected gases. The sun and the planets formed over another few billion years and here we are today.
*My Opinion*
Well I think God created the earth, but I also think that he done it by physical processes over a long time. Genesis tells us that God created the earth in seven days, but no time table is given to prove how long a said *day* was. A day to God could be a million years. According to my bio class the upper range of the earth age is approx. about 5 Billion years give or take .5, but the teacher was a fool and that of course is pure speculation based on current scientific analysis of the oldest earth rocks.
I think the earth is somewhere around 4.5 billion years old (this might not be right, but it’s probably the right time frame) and was created by God. I don’t buy the 6,000 year thing people say the Bible claims. Maybe it’s human error, I don’t know, but whatever. I guess you didn’t ask about when it all happened though. You asked how the earth and galaxies were created, well something along the lines of the big bang I would suppose, and then the solar system formed etc etc, but only God could orchestrate such a grand universe.
I agree with Brandon, the Bible was translated to Greek and then to Middle English, and apparently the original word meant something along the lines of “time period” and the Greeks didn’t know how to translate it so they just used the Greek word for “day”. I think the 6,000 year thing came from the second part of Genesis where they go through all the so-and-so begat so-and-so, I guess that’s as far back as their records went. I’m not sure if one is supposed to take that literally or not…
Your question says “created,” so is it restricted to theism? I know that the Milky Way is 13.2 billion years old, while Earth is 4.54 billion years old. Its easy to slap a label on it and say “God did it.”
Why don’t you just toddle on back to Religion and Spirituality, where you’ll find lots of people who agree with your biblical non-sense? Most of us in this section won’t be buying your BS. Science is not done by deciding a priori what the ‘correct’ answer is.
