Kinesta, you asked a really good question about epidurals and having back pain after you’ve delivered. It’s normal after you’ve gotten an epidural to have a little bit of localized pain where they inserted the needle. It’s just like your IV site. It might hurt a little bit because something sharp was inserted there. But it shouldn’t last longer than a day or so. If you have chronic back problems after having your baby it’s usually attributed to the fact that you had a baby because during the pregnancy you gain a ton of weight really quickly and that kind of messes up your body’s ability to adjust as well as the fact that you have this growing weight in front of you. You shift your center of gravity back and that can actually cause chronic back pain after you’ve delivered. If you continue to have chronic back pain after you’ve delivered your baby if it’s within the first six weeks after delivery contact the person who delivered you and they can give you further advice or if it’s after six weeks from delivery then contact your normal family care provider and they can also talk to you about that issue.
