Caring for little Stuart – cute baby mouse

Warning: for inexperienced animal people the failure rate for trying to handraise a baby mouse is around 75%. It is very painful loosing a baby mouse because you get to love them so much. Think carefully about it before you try. Only handraise an orphan or a doomed baby, one who is destined for snake food, since handraising is hard on baby mice. With a doomed baby you are at least giving it a chance at life. What you need: 0-0 to care for the baby and the adult mouse, commitment to see a project to the end no matter how tired you get, good motor control so you can hold a tiny wriggling baby steady without crushing it, ability to research, understand and follow instructions, a sense of responsibility towards the little mouse so that when it is no longer a cute baby you will still love and take good care of it, this little one will love you as much as any dog or cat would, if you loose interest you will break its heart. Caring for a few day old baby mouse is not easy. There is a lot of work, patience and skill involved not to mention lack of sleep from the nightly feedings. It is worth it though, the little mouse will grow up into the most amazing pet, as loyal and affectionate as a tiny dog. WARNING: do not attempt to raise a pinky unless you are a very experienced animal person or it is a true orphan and there is no other choice. It is better to start with a fuzzy, a little mouse between 8 and 10 days old who has fur but whose eyes have not opened yet. You are much

@TheWastedPikachus No, cows milk does not work for most baby animals, it gives them a tummy upset and they can? die………

  • TheWastedPikachus says:

    Will cow milk? work

  • hamstercarechannel says:

my papa used to bread mice and i was allowed to hold the baby ones who were supposed to be fed to? the little snake that my cousin owned. and they were so cute!

  • CreekValleyCritters says:

@787Ma689 He is cute but there is a lot of work and skill involved in successfully handraising a baby mouse. On top of that with an inexperienced? animal person the failure rate of trying to raise a baby mouse is close to 90%. This makes raising them very stressful and very heartbreaking if/when the little one dies……….

@HannahTheScribe Stui was between 4 and 5 five days old in this video. He is now just over one and a half years old and other than some allergies and general chubbiness, doing? very well :)

You are the best mom ?

  • CreekValleyCritters says:

@awesomeblaze44 No, it? is not a natural food for baby mice. The best food for handraising baby mice is goats milk………

  • melissabirbeck says:

awwwwww so cute where did you get him please reply?

  • CreekValleyCritters says:

@Hasenkind1 More stuff is coming :) The problem is that as he gets older he becomes less active, it is Matilda who? steals the show now. But I do have some good stuff still to edit, so you will get to see more of my sweet, fat little boy :)

  • Hasenkind1 says:

I breed Gerbils too, i´m from germany (i´m half canadian) and i love this Song too. U Have to make new Videos of Stui. We want to? see NEW Material about him

  • CreekValleyCritters says:

@melissabirbeck I got him from Total Pet in Prince George, BC, Canada. I got my little female mouse Matidla from a mouse breeder who breeds mice? to be frozen and then sold as snake food. If you are thinking of handraising a pinky, unless you are a very experienced animal person, I would recommend against it. Handraising a baby mouse is very tricky, everything has to be just right for it to work. It really hurts to loose them. Look at my series ‘Raising a Baby Mouse’, it will tell you much more.

  • daianbotelho says:

very cute! I think? every creature deserves care, affection, or at least respect and we have to stop seeing the wonders of creation as less than human.

  • emmaheliseashcraft says:

    Your so kind? :)

  • CreekValleyCritters says:

@emmaheliseashcraft I could only save one mouse, it felt really bad? leaving his mom and siblings at the petstore to become snake food, but I only had the time and money to devote to one. I wanted Stuart to be handraised as I wanted him to show the world the best that a mouse can be, to be an ambassador for his species. Stuart may help change how people view mice, to see that they are more than just snake food and should not be abused as they are now………
